DANVILLE — Drivers and passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment following a head-on collision early Tuesday afternoon.

Five people were transported to Provena United Samaritans Medical Center following the accident at 1:33 p.m. at 2507 N. Bowman Ave., just north of Winter Avenue.

Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Dennis Wood said a 1997 Cadillac was headed northbound, driven by a female juvenile when, according to witnesses, the car veered into the southbound lane of traffic.

The Cadillac collided head-on with an oncoming 2003 Grand Am driven by Christopher Boen, 23, of Rossville, doing severe damage to both vehicles.

Boen and his passenger, Jessica Dobkins, 18, of Hoopeston, were transported to Provena USMC along with the female juvenile driver along with two other juveniles — her brother and her boyfriend. Their names were not immediately available.

The accident closed down a section of North Bowman Avenue stretching from Winter Avenue to Liberty Lane for about an hour on Tuesday, Wood said. Closing the road caused some District 118 students on buses o be later than usual reaching their homes.

Several emergency units were called in for the accident, including the Danville rescue personnel who helped to extricate Boen from the Grand Am.

Assistant Chief John High said the Grand Am’s wheel had bent in as a result of the crash, trapping the woman’s foot and leg in the vehicle. Rescue personnel had to “get creative” and roll up the dash of the car to free the woman.

Bismarck Fire Protection District and Medix were also called to the scene of the crash.
