VERMILION GROVE — Frigid temperatures couldn’t keep the flames down as four fire districts responded to a house fire Tuesday night.
Ridge Farm Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Charles Gallagher said the home at 14997 East 400N Road was fully involved with firefighters arrived on the scene.
The fire was reported just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at the two-story wood frame home.
Gallagher said personnel with the Georgetown, Westville and Indianola fire protection districts responded with mutual aid to the fire. Westville and Indianola provided water transportation out to the scene.
It was a long night for fighters, who didn’t return until early Wednesday morning after being out at the fire scene for almost six hours.
Gallagher said it appeared the fire started somewhere in the middle of the home. A cause has not been determined and the State Fire Marshal’s Office was expected out at the scene by noon Wednesday.
Gallagher said roads had been plowed by the county, allowing firefighters to make it out to the scene. Temperatures and wind speeds, however, combined for wind chills as low as minus 5 degrees.
No injuries were reported, Gallagher said. The family was not home at the time of the fire.
