DANVILLE — Local boaters can hit the waters of the Middle Fork River again. How long the opportunity will last is another issue.
State and county officials agreed to open the Middle Fork River late Monday afternoon following a span of almost a week in which the river was closed due to high waters and unsafe conditions.
According to measurements, the Middle Fork stood three feet as of Tuesday morning, a change of almost four feet compared early Friday evening when the river reached its highest point.
The announcement to reopen the river was tempered Monday by the warning that any further rains in the area during the next few days could once again change the restrictions.
The National Weather Service in Lincoln has forecast rain and thunderstorms to move through the county beginning Wednesday and continuing with periodic rainfall into Thursday.
