DANVILLE — Police continue to investigate an incident in which a homeowner fired shots at a person who entered his home.

The incident was reported just minutes before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of New York Street.

Police Deputy Director Doug Miller said a resident reported a person walked into the home, holding what appeared to be a long rifle and then pointed it at the resident.

The person in the home pulled out a handgun and fired it at the man, who dropped the weapon and ran away along with another person who had not entered the home.

Miller said the long rifle turned out to be a BB gun. No injuries have been reported.

The suspects were reported as black men in their late teens, both wearing black hooded sweatshirts. One stood about 6 feet tall with a slim build while the other was about 5 feet 7 inches and stocky.

— A group of six people were rescued after becoming lost in Kennekuk Cove County Park during the three-day weekend.

Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Eric Deck said the group — an 18 year old, a 20 year old and children ages, 13, 12, 2 and 1 years old — went to Kennekuk on Memorial Day to hike.

The group got lost in the park once it became dark and were forced to call 911 for help just after 9:30 p.m.

Deck said the communications center logged the people’s location using latitude and longitude and directed personnel to their location.

Wednesday, 7:55 a.m. — At West Winter Avenue and North Vermilion Street involving Ashley Brown, 21, of the 1100 block of Grant Street, and Judith Myers, 59, of Danville. Brown was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving without a valid driver’s license..

Wednesday, 3:12 p.m. — At Vermilion and Woodbury streets involving Travis Turner, 17, of rural Danville, Montana Schnelle, no age listed, of Danville, and Raymond Bann, 59, of Danville. Turner was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
