DANVILLE — Several homes will get a fresh look this weekend as part of HALO’s Painting Blitz.
The HALO Housing Committee, a project of Provena United Samaritans Medical Center Foundation, in cooperation with the City of Danville, Stradeco Inc., and Frank’s House of Color, will paint homes of individuals who are elderly, disabled and meet income guidelines, with the help of community volunteers on Saturday.
Since 1997, HALO will have organized the painting of more than 135 homes and several park buildings in Danville, Catlin, Oakwood, Westville, Tilton and Georgetown to beautify neighborhoods and restore pride.
This project is made possible with the help of hundreds of community volunteers from local businesses, civic groups, church groups, individuals and vendors.
Each volunteer Paint Team will be in charge of scraping, priming and painting the first floor of one house. Painting supplies and paint are provided by HALO Project. The day starts at each Paint Team’s assigned home at 7 a.m., and most Paint Teams are winding down with the painting and getting busy with the clean-up process by noon.
Eight homes will be painted during the 13th annual HALO Painting Blitz. There will be 21 teams painting homes this year for a total of 188 community volunteers.
They are: The Kirk/Cornell Team, New Kingdom Church, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Vermilion County, Samantha Olson Team, Danville United Church of Christ, Thyssen Krupp Presta Danville LLC, Mervis Industries, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois Team 1, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois Team 2, KIK Custom Products, Coldwell Banker Devonshire Realty, Peer Court Inc., Danville Lions Club, First Midwest Bank, AMBUCS, Provena United Samaritans Medical Center Team 1, Provena United Samaritans Medical Center Team 2, Faith in Action, Sunrise Rotary, Cellular One, Southside Nazarene Church and several community individuals.
The professional painting expenses are being paid by the City of Danville and by a grant HALO receives from the Provena Foundation’s event, the Festival of Trees. The following area businesses have also made donations to this year’s Painting Blitz: Royal Donut, County Market North, County Market South, Wal-Mart, Wendy’s North, Schroeder’s, McDonald’s North and Burger King Main Street.
