Tilton to celebrate overpass completion

TILTON — Nearly 11 years after planning began and three years after construction started, the 14th Street overpass in Tilton is near completion.

Tilton Mayor David Phillips told the village board Thursday night that there would be a ceremony at 10 a.m. July 1 to officially open the new overpass.

In anticipation of the ceremony, the board approved the purchase of 15 flags and 15 brackets from Flags over America of Chapel Hill, N.C. Cost had yet to be determined.

Also on Thursday night, Joe Gleisner of Gleisner Engineering of Danville gave a report on the final stages of the Coachlight Mobile Home Park sewer project.

According Gleisner, the project is basically complete except for some cable that needs to be buried and paving that needs to be completed.

Gleisner told the board that attorneys for the village and for the mobile home park are looking over easement documents and as soon as that is completed, the documents can be signed by the mayor and the owner of the mobile home park. The easements then would be recorded with the county recorder of deeds.

In other board action, trustees:

-- Approved a final payment to Central Illinois Tile Co. of Champaign for work on the Coachlight sewer project of $42,489.

-- Approved payment to Gleisner Engineering for $20,240 for design work and oversight of the project.

-- Gave approval for the mayor to sign documents once they are reviewed by the village attorney.

-- Learned that the zoning ordinance will be presented to the public at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the UAW Civic Center in Tilton.

-- Approved the payment of $14,800 to Foth Companies of Champaign for technical assistance in completing the zoning ordinance.

-- Heard a presentation from Jeff Fauver of the First National Bank of Catlin seeking to be the depository for village funds.

-- Approved the purchase of a steel shipping container from Mel Price Trucking Co. of Danville for $1,850. The container will be used to store equipment at the cemetery.

-- Learned that Schultz Nursery has donated 20 trees to the village to be planted around Herschel Lake.

-- Learned the village did not receive a grant to purchase a new police car.

WHAT’S NEXT

The Tilton Village Board will meet at 6 p.m. July 16 in the Tilton Village Hall.
