DANVILLE —
Finish Line at the Village Mall is finishing out its days.
The athletic retailer specializing in brand-name footwear, apparel and accessories will close on Jan. 28.
An employee at the store confirmed the store is closing on that date.
Mall Manager Cindy Compton also said a Finish Line representative informed her that Jan. 28 is the date the store will close.
“They have had a lease here at the mall since 1995. I do not know how many employees they have at this location,” Compton said via e-mail. “They are closing due to their sales volume.
“We continue to aggressively promote the mall to various potential tenants and due to the excellent location, size and condition of the space (we) are confident that it will not be vacant for long,” Compton added in the e-mail.
Phone messages to a Finish Line representative were not returned.
The store closes as Dunham’s Sports opened at the mall last year, and another long-awaited store announcement still is expected anytime. That national store is a fashion retailer and will take the spot in the former Goody’s space.
Finish Line stores also are located in Champaign and Terre Haute, Ind.
