Provena offers diabetes classes

DANVILLE — Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville and Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana each offer a diabetes self-management series twice a year, which includes multiple topics to help individuals control diabetes.

Topics discussed include: blood glucose monitoring, meal planning, medications, foot care, exercise, behavior/lifestyle changes, preventing/treating complications, and more. Classes also include take-home materials.

Each series runs for two consecutive sessions on Mondays in Danville and on Tuesdays in Urbana. Classes are in the Outpatient Nutrition Services Room at USMC in Danville and at the Provena Center for Healthy Aging in Champaign. Cost is $15 per session.

Provena’s Danville classes will be 9-11 a.m. April 5 and 12, and 1-3 p.m. Oct. 4 and 11.

Provena Covenant’s (Urbana) classes will be 9-11 a.m. April 6 and 13, and 1-3 p.m. Oct. 5 and 12.

In addition to the diabetes self-management classes, both Provena medical centers provide ongoing information and assistance through free diabetes management support groups. The schedule for the support groups is as follows:

The Danville diabetes support group meets 4:30-5:30 p.m. April 12, June 14 and Oct. 11.

The Urbana group meets 4:30-5:30pm April 13, June 15 and Oct. 12.
