DANVILLE — Danville Light Opera will be conduct open auditions for their dinner theater production of The Spitfire Grll on at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 15 and 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16. Auditions both days will be at DLO’s Center Stage Rehearsal Hall, located in the Village Mall next to the former Steve & Barry’s.
Those wishing to audition should prepare 16 measure of a vocal selection and provide sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. (No a cappella auditions, please.) You may be asked to read or sing from the script. A copy of the script is available at the Danville Public Library and at The Java Hut in downtown Danville. A basic dance step will also be taught, so wear appropriate shoes.
The Spitfire Grill includes parts for four women and three men. One of the male roles has no speaking or singing, but must be a strong actor, able to convey and project the messages and emotion to reach the audience.
This musical is the haunting and powerful tale of a young woman just released from prison, who decides to start anew in rural Gilead, Wis., working at Hannah’s Spitfire Grill. As she struggles to overcome her past, the entire town journeys with her toward the rekindling of hope and the grace of redemption.
The Spitfire Grill will be presented Feb. 12-14, 2010, at the DACC Bremer Center Theater. Jeanne Dunn is the director this production, with Karen Grove as musical director and Jessica Brackmann as choreographer.
