Danville library offers online services

DANVILLE — Danville Public Library cardholders may use their home or office computers to access online resources ¡X all available 24/7 and free of charge.

By visiting the library¡¦s ¡§Catalogs, Databases & E-Collections¡¨ Web page at http://www.danville.lib.il.us/catalogs.htm, users have access to:

ƒÞ Mango Languages: An online language-instruction system offering nine foreign languages and three English as a Second Language options.

ƒÞ Music Online for Public Libraries: 200,000-plus tracks of streaming music covering most major genres, including bluegrass, blues, children¡¦s, classical, folk, hip-hop, jazz, Latin, reggae, R&B;, rock, sacred, show tunes and World.

ƒÞ My Media Mall: Hundreds of downloadable Audiobooks, eBooks, and Videos. Many audiobooks are iPod-compatible.

ƒÞ HeritageQuest Online: Genealogy database offering census data, family records and local histories.

ƒÞ Reference Databases: Sites include A to Z Maps Online, Global Road Warrior (travel guides), McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, Morningstar Mutual Funds Online, Reference USA and Salem Health.

ƒÞ LINC: The online catalog, from which users may search for library materials and reserve or renew items.

Remote access to most of these resources is limited to library card holders. A Danville Public Library card may be obtained at the circulation desk on the library¡¦s first floor.

The library is located at 319 N. Vermilion St. Library hours are Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Anyone may use the library¡¦s materials and services in the building without a library card. Persons wishing to borrow library materials must obtain a library card. The library honors cards from all Illinois public libraries.
