Suspect arrested in shooting

BY BRIAN L. HUCHEL

DANVILLE — A parolee living in Kankakee County is charged in a shooting incident earlier this week.

Robert Taylor Jr., 37, of Danville was taken into custody Tuesday night by officers with both the Kankakee Major Crimes Unit and the U.S. Marshals Office. He was arrested in the village of Sun River Terrance, located just east of Kankakee.

Danville Police Deputy Director Doug Miller said investigations by Danville detectives led to Taylor as a suspect. A warrant for his arrest was obtained Tuesday evening and he was arrested a little after 10:30 p.m.

Taylor, who lived in the 900 block of Hubbard Lane, is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm. His bond is set at $100,000.

The shooting was reported to police at 8:45 p.m. Monday in the 900 block of Campbell Lane. The victim, a 36-year-old Danville man, suffered a non-life threatening injury and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Miller said the victim told police he was walking along Campbell Lane when he was approached by a man. An argument ensued between the men during which the suspect pulled out a small handgun and pointed it at the victim.

The Danville man told police he ran away, but was hit by at least one gunshot fired by the suspect.

Taylor was on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections after serving time in prison for a 2001 armed robbery case in Kankakee County.
