DANVILLE — Lily Siu and her Danville Area Community College students will unveil their art exhibit Sunday.
A reception will be from 2-5 p.m. at the Alley Gallery, 113 N. Vermilion St.
Siu and her students will attend the event. All the pieces will be for sale, with proceeds going directly to the artist.
Located in downtown Danville, the gallery is a venue for both local and regional artists. The gallery is a place to view new artists and those whose art is somewhat different.
Siu teaches a continuing education non-credit art class at DACC. Some of her students have been with her for six years now, and they come together every Thursday night “and watch the wheels spin.”
Siu said this is an accomplished group, and they are always welcoming new students. When in her class, students are free to work on what they want, and she is there to help.
Siu cooks, drinks and eats off of her own pottery pieces. She said it is “enhancing and enriching to do art.” With today being so busy and commercial, art helps develop skills and creativity, she said.
Her class teaches students how to create pottery. This is an eight-week class and she said they are in “need of budding potters for January.” For more information on this class and others, call DACC at 443-3222 or check its Web site at http://www.dacc.edu.
David Nolan, curator of the Alley Gallery and also one of Siu’s students, will have some pieces on exhibit. Siu also will have some of her beading work for sale.
Also on display will be paintings from Amy Chrisman, who paints some of Vermilion County’s historic buildings. There will be hand-painted scarves by Cheryl Cameron, and some fused glass pieces by Mike Byers.
Nolan hopes to get some hand-blown Christmas ornaments from Inspired Fire to be on display, as well.

The Alley Gallery exhibit will open Tuesday and run through December and possibly the first week of January. The gallery is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 4 p.m. or by appointment. Contact David Nolan at 497-2286 to make an appointment.
