ROSSVILLE — The Rossville Community Organization will host its 8th Annual Christmas in the Village on Friday and Saturday.

The event starts at 9 a.m. Friday with the annual Christmas Goodies Bake Sale at the Bank of Rossville. This event will end when all items are sold.

At 7 a.m. Saturday, the day kicks off with a pancake breakfast at the Methodist Church running until 11 a.m.

That evening, the Holiday Light Parade will start at 6 p.m. Featuring local floats and entries decorated with lights, the parade will commence from the parking lot of the high school building and proceed south down Chicago Street through downtown and end at Stufflebeam Street.

In order to help make the parade run smoothly, every one is asked to refrain from parking along Chicago Street and along the first block of Stewart Street and Stufflebeam Drive.

This year’s grand marshal for the parade will be Rossville resident Molly Culbert.

Following the parade, the Christmas Winter Carnival will take place from 6:30-8: p.m. at the Rossville/Alvin High School gym. The event will feature games, booths, food, and a silent auction of Christmas wreaths made by the students of the Rossville/Alvin elementary and junior high.

Christman Park will be ablaze with hundreds of Christmas lights starting at 6:30 Saturday. The all-volunteer members of the Rossville Community Organization have been decorating the park for weeks, and this year’s newest addition will be a Christmas Tree Forest. The light display will be open every night through the holidays. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

A special display on South Chicago Street will honor former Rossville resident Carl Otis, who is credited with the invention of the Christmas Bubble Light. Three evergreen trees on the street have been decorated with small lights and bubble lights to recognize Rossville’s contribution to the holiday season.
