ATTICA, Ind. — Three Republican precinct committeemen in Attica will choose a new mayor to-night from among eight candidates.
Fountain County Republican Chairman Terry Martin announced Wednesday that eight people have filed necessary papers to replace three-term Mayor Deon H. “Butch” Swift, who died Dec. 10 after a short illness.
The candidates are Daniel Askren, William Larry Askren, Robert “Chub” Clardy, Arnold DeZarn, George Evans, Larry William Grant, Robert Shepherd and Donald Smart Sr.
The caucus will be at 6 p.m. EST at the city building, 305 E. Main St.
Swift was first elected mayor in 1999 and was re-elected in 2003 and 2007. His term expires in 2009.
Councilwoman Valarie Maus is serving as mayor pro-tem.
