HOOPESTON —
Lacking a quorum of members, the city council could not pursue business at Tuesday’s meeting. Present at the meeting were Alderman Bill Goodwine and Brandon Hamilton and Alderwoman Sue Comstock.
Mayor Bill Crusinberry commented in a public forum on the opening of the Casa del Sol Restaurant this month located in the Hoopeston Plaza next to Pamida. The restaurant features Mexican cuisine.
“I think they (Casa del Sol) will be an asset to the community,” Crusinberry said.
He also noted that the Carlson building, located in the 100 block of West Main Street, has been demolished. The owner of the building who lives on the West Coast was cooperative in working with the city. It was one of the dangerous buildings the city has been seeking to have demolished or repaired.
Crusinberry commented on the summary of progress of work on the Prairie Meadows project at the regularly scheduled monthly review and recently toured one of the houses.
“I was reasonably impressed with the house and the closet space,” Crusinberry said. “They (closets) are larger than expected.” He added that only a few of the houses being built are handicapped accessible but all of them are adaptable for handicap accessibility if needed.
Josh Caudle, Lorraine Theatre owner, reported that a meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lorraine Theatre to discuss ideas for keeping the theater open.
WHAT’S NEXT
