CAYUGA, Ind. —
An Illinois demolition derby driver died following injuries he suffered during a weekend event in Indiana.
Gary Littlejohn, 27, of Oblong, Ill., was pronounced dead just before 8 p.m. EDT Saturday at Union Hospital in Clinton, Ind., according to a release from the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department.
Littlejohn was among a number of drivers competing in a demolition derby Saturday afternoon at Cayuga Park. The demolition derby was sponsored by the Cayuga Fire Department.
Littlejohn was injured just before 6 p.m. Saturday when the pickup truck he was driving rolled over onto its top, crushing the top and trapping him inside. He had to be extricated from the vehicle by Cayuga fire and rescue personnel. He initially received treatment on the scene before being transported to Union Hospital.
