Local Colts fan will be at Super Bowl

BY DAVID DELGADO

DANVILLE — While millions of people watch the Super Bowl every year at a bar, a party or from the comfort of their own homes, about 75,000 people get to experience the event in the flesh.

This year, Carmack Car Capitol owner Gary Knight will be one of the thousands of fans in attendance today at Sun Life Stadium in Miami to see the Indianapolis Colts take on the New Orleans Saints in Super Bowl XLIV.

A die-hard Colts fan, Knight is ecstatic about his trip to the epic sporting event. The season-ticket holder has gone to Colts home games for the past 10 years.

“I haven’t missed a game,” Knight said.

After the Colts defeated the New York Jets Jan. 31 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Knight raced home from the game to purchase Super Bowl tickets.

Unable to go to the Super Bowl in 2007 when the Colts faced the Chicago Bears, Knight said this might be his last opportunity to see the Colts go to the big show.

“I wasn’t going to miss out on this chance,” Knight said.

“It was on my bucket list,” he added jokingly.

Knight said he and his wife, Kima, were scheduled to fly Friday to Miami with about 170 other true-blue fans. Knight said his seats are behind one of the end zones.

A Colts fan in what many think of as Bears’ territory, Knight said he used to support Chicago, but became a Colts follower after enduring many years of disappointment with the Bears in the 1990s.

“It’s just so frustrating being a Bears fan because nothing ever goes right,” Knight added. With a record of 7-9 this season, Bears fans can surely sympathize with Knight’s sentiments.

“I am very confident that the Colts will win by at least 10,” Knight said of today’s big game.
