CASA training class to begin

STAFF REPORT

DANVILLE — The Court Appointed Special Advocates is seeking recruits who advocate for children who are wards of the Vermilion County Juvenile Court.

After completing a 30-hour training course, advocates are sworn in as officers of the court. They meet regularly with the child and the adults who have contact with the child, including foster parents, teachers, babysitters and others to determine what the child needs and his or her best interests. After training, advocates receive step-by-step guidance from CASA staff.

The next training class will begin Tuesday 9. Adults, age 21 or older, may complete an application at http://www.casavermilion.org or call 446-5975. Candidates must submit references and pass a background check.
