DANVILLE — Police were searching Sunday night for a gunman in an Alexander Street shooting.
Department of Public Safety Director Larry Thomason confirmed around 11 p.m. Sunday that the shooting took place around 8:15 p.m. in the first block of Alexander Street.
According to Thomason, a man drove up in a vehicle to a residence along Alexander Street and exited the vehicle. He then fired several shots at a man standing outside the home where the suspect had parked. The gunman then drove away in an unknown direction.
Police found the shooting victim, who had been on the porch of the home at the time of the shooting outside the residence. He suffered gunshot wounds to the lower part of his body, according to a press release from Thomason.
The victim, a 26-year-old Danville man, was taken to Provena United Samaritans Medical Center and then transferred to a Champaign-Urbana area hospital. Thomason said the victim was listed in serious condition as of late Sunday night.
Thomason said the incident appears to be an isolated incident.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 446-TIPS (8477) or contact the Danville Police Department.
