DANVILLE — Police continue to investigate a Sunday evening shooting that put one man in the hospital.
Police responded to the report of a shooting at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday in the first block of Alexander Street. They found a man lying outside a home there.
Police Deputy Director Doug Miller said detectives continue to try to interview witnesses in connection with the case.
At this point, descriptions of the suspect or the vehicle he was driving have not been released.
According to police, the victim — a 26-year-old Danville man — was not a resident of the home where he was shot. He was taken to Provena United Samaritans Medical Center and then transferred to a Champaign-Urbana hospital.
Miller said the victim remained hospitalized Monday, but was in stable condition.
Initial investigations indicated the victim was on the front porch of the home when the suspect stopped in a vehicle in front of the residence. The suspect got out and fired several shots, striking the victim in the lower part of the body.
No one else was injured in the incident. The location of the victim’s wounds has not been released.
The suspect drove away in an unknown direction, according to police.
The shooting is being called an isolated incident.
Anyone with information is asked to call Danville police at 431-2250 or Crime Stoppers at 446-TIPS (8477).
The shooting is the fourth non-fatal firearm incident this year — two in March and two in January.
