D118 to dedicate school’s addition

DANVILLE — The brand new cafetorium at North Ridge Middle School will open its doors to the public for the first time Monday night.

An open house and dedication is planned with an evening full of activities, starting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the middle school.

Some of the activities include musical performances from the middle school’s choral and instrumental music departments as well as a short performance from the school’s drama department.

Superintendent Mark Denman and North Ridge Principal Jason Bletzinger will offer opening remarks at the beginning of the event. A few North Ridge students also will speak, Denman said.

District 118’s Buildings and Grounds Director Ron Henton will introduce the general contractor, McDowell Builders of Sidell, and others who made the school renovation and cafetorium project possible.

“All students past and present are welcome to attend, and it is also open to the public,” Denman said.

Past principals are expected to be present, as well as school board members who will be recognized. The American Legion also will be honored for its support during the $13.8 million project.

“We had to use their property for parking and to put equipment and supplies on,” Denman said.

After the program, walking tours of the renovated school will be available, and Denman said “delicious treats” will be served from the cafetorium’s state-of-the-art kitchen.

“We’re very proud of the new facility, and we want to show the residents their community investment,” Denman said.
