New director takes over at Multi-Agency

HOOPESTON — Marcie Sheridan stepped into the role of Hoopeston Multi-Agency director effective on Tuesday, filling the shoes of Chalmers Flint who is retiring.

"The opportunity to become director of the Multi-Agency will keep me close to my family and community," Sheridan said.

Sheridan, the daughter of Randy and Linda Chesnut of Hoopeston, spent the last two years as executive director of the Kankakee County Center Against Sexual Assault (KC-CASA) in Kankakee, taking the reins at a time when the organization was in jeopardy of closing.

Under her management, the agency increased staff to 18 full- and part-time members with a financial reserve established and funding sources to help insure long term sustainability.

"While I truly loved what I was doing and enjoyed my time as director of KC-CASA," Sheridan said, "I wanted a position that kept me closer to home and allowed me to be a part of helping those in my hometown community."

Previous to her position with KC-CASA, Sheridan spent 10 years as the Iroquois County advocacy coordinator and legal medical advocate with Iroquois Sexual Assault Services (ISAS) in Watseka and two years as a child advocate at the YWCA Women’s Shelter in Danville. She also is involved in the CrossRoads Youth Center in Milford as treasurer and volunteer for the organization.

"I am extremely excited that we have someone who can fill my shoes that can handle it," Flint said.

Multi-Agency board member Dan Goodrum added, "Like a sigh of relief."

Sheridan has a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and a Master’s of Social Work from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. She has internships and other relevant work through the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence as policy intern and Big Brothers Big Sisters Youth Advocate in Springfield, UIUC Office of Women’s Programs graduate assistant in Champaign, and Women’s Center intern and SIUC Achieve Program tutor in Carbondale.

She also received in-service training and continuing education in Sexual Assault Training 40 hours; new directors training ICASA; Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners Training; attended the End Violence Against Women Conference and National Sexual Assault Conference; received financial training for non-profit managers; and other training in seminars and webinars relating to her career.

Sheridan has experience in writing grants, managing large budgets, community relationships, fundraising and seeking new funding sources.

Married to Brad Sheridan, the couple has two children, Payton, 13, and Micah, 10, and lives between Hoopeston and Milford. She looks forward to working with children, adults and seniors through the Multi-Agency and area organizations.

Flint, director of the Multi-Agency twice for a total of nine years, will remain at the Multi-Agency during a transition period until Feb. 8, and then he will take a position on the Multi-Agency board. He plans to take a vacation in March and golf this summer, but hinted that total retirement was not part of his vocabulary.
