Man hurt in shooting

DANVILLE — A local man was shot in the leg during a disturbance at the Fair Oaks Housing Complex late Thursday afternoon.

Danville police received a call of a shooting victim around 4:10 p.m. Thursday in the 900 block of Belton Avenue.

Police Deputy Director Doug Miller said officers arrived to find a 20-year-old Danville man who had received a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken by ambulance to an Urbana hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately available.

Miller said an altercation among several individuals broke out at the housing complex prior to the shooting. Someone fired several shots, striking the suspect in the leg.

No one else was injured in the shooting.

At this point, Miller said police are unsure whether the victim was a part of the altercation or simply a bystander. An investigation into the shooting is continuing.

Police did not have a description of the shooting suspect as of Thursday night.
