HOF names 3 new members

Induction ceremony set for March 10 at county museum

DANVILLE — Three Vermilion County businessmen have been selected to be inducted into the Vermilion County Business Hall of Fame in March.

The three are the late Art Fleming, the late Lowell H. Loving and Charles Henry Clapp, Jr, according to a press release from Vermilion Advantage.

Fleming was a major developer within Danville and Vermilion County from the 1970s until his death in 2003. He was the driver behind many of the housing and commercial developments across Vermilion County, while teaching real estate and participating in countless community activities.

Fleming was named First Citizen of the Year in 1976 by the American Business Club.

Loving was a surveyor and mapper who was often lauded for his knowledge of the history of the community, according to the release.

Loving began his career in Danville as an engineer at General Electric before he decided to open his own surveying and mapping business at his dining room table on East Main Street. He served as a mentor for countless young people and started them on their own career paths.

Among his other activities, Loving was active in the Boy Scouts.

Clapp is a long-time entrepreneur in Vermilion County and is considered one of the country’s foremost experts on aerosol packaging technology and formulations.

Following other successful business ventures, Clapp and his children founded Full-Fill Industries in Henning in 1999. The company is now considered the largest food aerosol manufacturer in the country.

He has been active in youth baseball, the Elks and was a U.S. Army Reservist.

Vicki Haugen, Vermilion Advantage president and CEO, said the recognition is about more than success in business.

“We are pleased that the individuals who were selected have established their success in business, but what made the panel choose these men is their unending commitment to the Vermilion County community,” Haugen said in a press release.

A panel reviewed the nominations submitted this year before making their final selections. Induction into the Vermilion County Business Hall of Fame is made based upon criteria that include the nomination itself, the individual’s business success, and how the individual has given back to the community at large.

Family and friends of the honorees will gather for an induction ceremony at the Business Hall of Fame display in the Vermilion County Museum on March 10. The Vermilion County Business Hall of Fame project is sponsored by Neuhoff Media, the Commercial-News and Vermilion Advantage.
