Rosa Irene Verhoeven

DANVILLE — Rosa Irene Verhoeven, 99 years old, went home to be with her Lord at 9:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at her home.

She was born June 9, 1913, in Tilton to Rosa Lee (Godar) and Lorenzo Harrier.

She married David Verhoeven on Oct. 18, 1930. He preceded her in death April 10, 1993.

She is survived by her children, Loral (Lois) Verhoeven of Riverton, Wyo., Kenneth Verhoeven of Danville, Robert (Verla) Verhoeven of Ferndale, Wash., and Sandra (David) Shepherd of Sidell; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John; sisters, Ezylda Harrier and Lily Brawner; daughter-in-law Joan; and grandsons Patrick and Matthew.

Rosa had enjoyed various crafts, needlework, sewing, crocheting and quilting, making quilts for her children and grandchildren and doll clothes for their dolls. She collected teddy bears, particularly Cherish Teddies. She loved eating at Steak ’n Shake, making many good friends there over the years.

Rosa didn’t think of herself in terms of her age and didn’t allow her years to stop her from holding on to the independence she prized. She was strong-willed and determined, caring for her own home and yard and driving her own car until recently. She loved her little Yorkie, Misty, who now lives with her friend Sue.

The family thanks Ronnie Wagoner for enabling Rosa to keep the independence that was so important to her as well as the many other friends that helped her, looked out for her and visited her.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams, Danville, with Curtis Darling officiating. Visitation: 3:30-7 p.m. Wednesday at Pape’s. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery.

Memorials: Grace & Truth, 210 Chestnut St., Danville, IL 61832.

Guest register: www.papemortuary.com.
