DANVILLE — Luther Dixon Bays, 63, of Danville, passed away at 4:51 a.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21, at Pape Memorial Home, 10 E. Williams St., Danville, with Rick Lomax officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.

Luther was born Oct. 3, 1949, in Crossett, Ark., to William and Muriel (Pearson) Bays. He attended Danville grade schools and Danville High School.

Luther went on to work as a truck driver for many years. He enjoyed watching John Wayne and old black-and-white movies, NASCAR, the Raiders and the Cardinals. He also liked mushroom hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family — especially his grandchildren.

Luther married Debra Marrow on June 25, 1971, in Danville. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Kimberly (BJ) Philpott, Brian (Carrie) Bays and John (Barbie) Bays; 11 grandchildren, Kristofer (Kathy), Joshua (Jenna), Hunter, Hannah “Missy Mae,” Zakk, Gauge, Gunner, Devin, Chance, Kaleb and Alyssa “Ally Ann”; and one great-grandchild, Gracien. He also leaves behind three brothers, Gary (Norma) Bays, William (Linda) Bays and Mark (Lori) Bays.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kyle Bays; a sister, Lucein Brockwell; and a brother, Carl Bays.
