DANVILLE — Sondra K. (Phelps) Swisher, 74, of Danville, passed away at 3:43 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Provena United Samaritans Hospital in Danville.

Sondra was born Aug. 16, 1938, in Danville, the daughter of Earl and Adahbell (Cox) Phelps.

She married Billy L. Swisher on Jan. 28, 1955. He survives.

Survivors include her children, Toni (Keith) Downing, Steve (Ronda) Swisher and Teresa Swisher Bailey; her sisters, Donna Linn and Rebecca (Mark) Forsyth; brother, Kim Phelps; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Constance (Connie) McGowen; and brothers-in-law, Glen McGowen and Roy Linn; one grandson, Lindsey Keith Downing; and one son, Billy E. Swisher.

Sondra spent many years working in special education. She was a devoted wife and mother.

A celebration of Sondra’s life will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville, with Pastor James Blue officiating. A visitation will be 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park.

Memorials can be made in Sondra’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice.
