MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif —
David Eugene Hinkle, 61, of Mountain View, Calif., passed away Dec. 30, 2012, in Santa Clara County, Calif.
Beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, David was born May 7, 1951, to Rex Aaron and Kathryn (Haven) Hinkle Sr. in Mattoon.
He is survived by his mother, of Illinois; two brothers, Rex (Kathy) Hinkle Jr. of Hollister, Calif., and Stephen Ray Hinkle of Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Trish (David) Walter of Oakwood; nieces, Shawn (Mike) June of Indianapolis, and Stepheny Hinkle of Albuquerque; nephews, Wade (Alesia) Hinkle of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Aaron (Beata) Hinkle of Pacifica, Calif.; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews.
David was preceded by his father and brother Bobby Lee Hinkle.
A 1969 graduate of Rossville High School, David attended Parkland College in Champaign before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1971. During his service he received hardware and software training and was stationed in several locations, including Japan.
After his service in the Marines, David became senior staff scientist in the Flight Simulation Division of Link, later part of Singer Corporation in Sunnyvale, Calif. He then worked as a staff engineer for Mitsubishi Precision Co., LTD in Kamakura-City, Japan. After leaving Japan, David enjoyed several months of traveling in Southeast Asia, especially Thailand, and he often returned there to visit friends.
Upon return to the United States, David worked as vice president of technology for Sense8 Corporation, which was acquired by Engineering Animation, Inc., in Mill Valley, Calif. Later David became a software and hardware consultant for private corporations, including Pacific Scientific in Hollister, Calif.
As a hobby, he worked with electronics, including a recent project in which he donated his time to develop a sensor to be used by a visually impaired child to aid in training to ride an AMBUCS AmTryke.
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville, with pastors Jeffery Vogelzan and Scott Potter officiating. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville.
