DANVILLE — Richard Ray Moore, 62, of Danville, passed this life at 6:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Danville.

Richard was born Dec. 4, 1950, to Henry Lloyd Moore Jr. and Eloiza Velazquez.

Richard was a Danville High School graduate and served eight years in the United States Army. He also worked for Family Resource for a short time.

Richard enjoyed gardening and repairing things. He loved to watch Westerns, baseball, basketball and wrestling.

Richard leaves to mourn his loss two sons, Cameron (Antonette) and Roger, of Atlanta, Ga.; two granddaughters, Tyonna and Taylor; and his stepfather, Jose Velazquez; four sisters, Saundra Moore and Brenda (Daniel) Morris, both of Danville, Sharon Ratzell of Bakersville, Calif., and LaTanya “Tammy” (Richard) Wheeler of Newport News, Va.; two brothers, Dennis (Linda) Moore of Danville, and Christopher (Elizabeth) Moore of Antioch, Calif.; and a companion of 20 years, Ruth Westmorland of Danville; many nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his biological parents, Henry Lloyd Moore Jr. and Eloiza Velazquez; two sisters, Daughnette Smith-Gault and Bonita Moore; two brothers, Henry Edward and Leonard Wesley; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

A celebration of life will commence at noon Friday, Jan. 25, at Carter Metropolitan CME Church, 448 E. Williams St., Danville. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating: the Rev. Roland Brown. Interment: Danville National Cemetery. A public viewing will commence from 1-5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St., Danville.
