RALEIGH, N.C. —
Eunice Irene Wolfe, 87, of Raleigh, N.C., formerly of Danville, and Bonita Springs, Fla., died at 4:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at REX Hospital in Raleigh, N.C.
Eunice was born March 29, 1925, in Georgetown, the only child of Glenn and Faye Smith Hayward.
She married Robert Lee Wolfe in Danville on Aug. 10, 1947.
She was preceded by her husband, Bob, on April 4, 2003, and their daughter Carol Varner on Nov. 27, 2005.
She is survived by her three children, Debbie (Roy) Knight of Fithian, Stanley (Jane) Wolfe of Raleigh, N.C., and Richard Wolfe of Boise, Idaho. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, who knew her as “Tutu” (Hawaiian for grandmother), Matt (Kym) Knight of Bismarck, parents of Levi, Logan and Kade; Denise (Michael) Maxwell of Westville, parents of Trent and Cole; Beth Knight of Bloomington, parent of Abigail; Rebecca (Shane) Diskin of Rankin, parents of Olivia and Fletcher; Erin (Jasen) Vaughan of Westville, Ind., parents of Kiersten and Mirra; Craig Wolfe of Raleigh, N.C.; and Dorothy (Christopher) Cable, of Raleigh, N.C., parents of Lizzy.
She was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Eunice graduated from Lakeview School of Nursing in 1946 and was a nurse at Lakeview Hospital in Danville for several years. She made lasting friendships during her career and enjoyed attending the annual Lakeview Alumni Banquet when she was able.
Eunice and Bob lived in Danville then Willisville. When Bob retired from Amax Coal, they moved to Bonita Springs, Fla., for sunshine and shuffleboard. They returned to Danville in 2003 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Eunice moved to Raleigh, N.C., in 2005. Since November 2009, she resided at Falls River Court Memory Care Community in Raleigh.
Her hobbies included reading, fishing, euchre and traveling — especially if trips included a stop or two at a casino. Eunice’s favorite activities included watching “Wheel of Fortune,” listening to Lawrence Welk, attending Red Hat Society events, dancing, riding her bicycle and winning trivia games. She enjoyed all seafood — particularly celebrations at Red Lobster.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at Sunset in Danville. Pastor Patti Wise will officiate.
