ALVIN — Beverly L. Sroufek, 80, of Alvin, passed away at 3:41 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Hoopeston Retirement Village in Hoopeston.

Beverly was born July 30, 1932, to George Beddow and Madeline Drake in Chicago.

She married Leonard Sroufek Sr. on Aug. 23, 1952, in Chicago. He survives.

Other survivors include sons, Michael (Suzi West) Sroufek Sr., Ronald (Jean) Sroufek, Leonard Sroufek Jr. and George (Angi Verdeyen) Sroufek, all of Alvin; grandchildren, Michael Jr., Brooke, Josh, Dan, Elizabeth, Nick and Amanda; nine great-grandchildren; Rita Sroufek, of Danville; special friends, Peggy Joe Ross of Arkansas and Mary Ann Sorenson of Hoopeston; numerous friends in Alvin and many extended family members.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John; sisters, Helen, Bernice, June and Mae; and several beloved family members.

A former resident of Chicago, Beverly was a devoted mother to both of the children she raised and the women who became her daughters-in-law. Gifted with a nurturing nature, she enjoyed spending time in her garden, where she grew roses, and with her animals, which at times included geese, chickens and dogs. Skilled in the kitchen, Beverly was involved in the lives of all those she loved and will be missed by those who were blessed to know her.

A celebration of Beverly’s life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home. As per Beverly’s wishes, she is to be cremated following the services, with burial of her ashes at Mann’s Chapel Cemetery in Rossville at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made in Beverly’s name to the Tilton Animal Shelter. Condolences may be left at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
