Margaret M. Gritton

DANVILLE — Margaret M. Gritton, 89, of Danville, left this life to be with the Lord at 2:38 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.

She was born Oct. 26, 1923, in rural Butler Township near Rankin to parents Hazel M. and Willie S. Nance.

Margaret attended Catlin area schools as a child and Danville High School.

She worked at a war-related battery manufacturing plant during World War II and at Phillips Dry Cleaning and Laundry. Margaret retired in 1989 from Medline Sewing Factory in Covington, Ind., following employment at Snower Sewing Co., formerly of Danville.

Margaret attended Abundant Life Church for many years and most recently the Danville First Assembly of God until her health prevented her from attending.

She enjoyed reading, watching Hallmark Channel movies and news programs, listening to gospel music, completing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, crocheting and sewing. She was truly a superb cook and excelled in all domestic arts. The simple things gave her a great deal of pleasure, particularly gardening and beautiful flowers.

Margaret married the Rev. William W. Pentecost on Jan. 1, 1948, at her family home in Danville. She was widowed March 3, 1972. She then married Paul E. Gritton on June 3, 1974. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1991.

Surviving family members include her son, William D. Pentecost (Pat) of Plant City, Fla.; her daughter Starla (Tom) Wright and daughter Rebekah (Leland) Cronkhite, both daughters and families residing in Danville; her stepson, Paul Gritton of Danville; her stepdaughter, Paula (Dwight) Stoup of Arizona; her stepdaughter, Claudia (Ed) Coultas of Danville; and seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four step grandchildren.

A celebration of Margaret’s life will begin at Pape Family Funeral Home with visitation from 3-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, with burial at Atherton Cemetery following the service.
