Mary Elizabeth (Fratick) Brooks

GEORGETOWN — Mary Elizabeth (Fratick) Brooks, 85, of Georgetown, passed away at 7:35 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at her home.

She was born Nov. 17, 1927, in Georgetown, the daughter of Charles Sr. and Margaret (Hoskins) Fratick.

She married James W. Brooks June 16, 1946, in Georgetown. He preceded her in death June 21, 2012.

She will be missed by her son, Chris (Michelle) Brooks of Georgetown; her daughter, Jamie (Mike) Spezia of Covington, Ind.; her grandchildren, Anthony Spezia of Covington, Ind., Alex Spezia of Covington, Ind., and Derek Shuman of Georgetown; and her companion, black Scottish terrier, Daisy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Stephen Douglas Brooks; and one brother, Charles Fratick Jr.

Mary was a graduate of Georgetown High School in 1945, where she was a cheerleader. She was a member of the First Church of Christ of Georgetown, Jr. Women’s Club, Georgetown Athletic Boosters and Georgetown Band Boosters.

Mary worked for the Georgetown Fair Board, in charge of the Horticulture Building. In her later years, she worked for Latoz Hardware. Mary had won many awards for horticulture and flower arranging.

She enjoyed cooking and was known by her family for making great pumpkin pies, homemade noodles, herb butter and everyone loved her holiday slush. She enjoyed going fishing and traveling to Gatlinburg and Wisconsin as well as making ceramics and gardening.

Per her wishes, Mary was cremated. A private family graveside service will be held for Mary and James Brooks. They will be laid to rest together in Georgetown Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Dornblaser Post 203. Sunset’s Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial donations may be given in her name to CARA, 609 E. Fifth St., Tilton, or Forest Glen County Preserve.
