David Chris Duke

DANVILLE — David Chris Duke, 78, of Danville, died at noon Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center, Danville.

David was born Aug. 20, 1934, in Danville to Dale R. and Helen Leona Seilhymer Duke.

He married Jererine Rison on Aug. 13, 1952, in Tijuana, Mexico. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, David (Michele) Duke of Danville; four daughters, Christy (Dan) Sullivan of Ocala, Fla., Gina (Dan) Roach of Grape Creek, Ruth (Jeff) Howard of Westville, and Carla (Doug) DeBarba of Grape Creek; one sister, Lila Rison, and very special brother-in-law, Albert Rison, of Danville; 10 grandchildren, Jason (Leslie) Delaney of Virginia, Anthony (Anne) Roach of Chicago, Sarah McFarland of Indiana, Cherri (Bill) Appelman of Catlin, Matthew (Kristin) Duke of Danville, Jonathon Duke of Danville, Jamie (Scott) Blackson of North Carolina, Scott (Katie) Howard of Danville, Douglas (Ashley) DeBarba of Westville, and Brandy (Louis) Dougherty of Westville; 18 great-grandchildren; and special niece, Sandra (Mitchell) Bailey, of Catlin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William Duke.

David served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the 78th Engineering Field Maintenance Company. He was a retired truck driver.

His favorite pastime was watching TV, especially wrestling. He attended the Morey Chapel Church of Christ in Danville. David loved his family very much, but the love of his life was his wife, Jererine, whom he called “Mom.” And he adored his dog, Buddy.

Graveside rites: 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the National Cemetery, Danville, with military honors provided.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Morey Chapel Church of Christ or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
