DANVILLE —
Marie J. Kelly, 94, of Danville, died peacefully and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, 2012, at her residence in Liberty Village.
Marie was born Aug. 15, 1918, in Danville, the daughter of George and Caroline (Gillette) Roesler.
On Aug. 1, 1937, she married Virgil E. Kelly, who preceded her in death in 1994. She was also preceded in death by her sister, LaVerne (Dabels) Paulson.
She is survived by her sons, Gordon (Susan) Kelly of St. Augustine, Fla., and Kenneth (Alice) Kelly of State Line, Ind. Also surviving are her three grandchildren, Bradley Kelly of Boston, Mass., Brian (Kathleen) Kelly of Grand Rapids, Mich., Theresa, of Gibson City; and three great-granddaughters, Hanna, Madelyn and Faith, also of Grand Rapids, Mich.
Marie completed her formal education later in her life, earning her college degree in education from the University of Illinois at age 52, and was a beloved school teacher in the Danville school system for many years. Prior to teaching, she partnered with her husband in Grand Rapids, Mich., as proprietors of Thompson-Kelly Cleaners, a successful dry cleaning establishment.
Marie was very active in church life. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Danville where she served on various committees, mentored young mothers and provided guidance and support for First Baptist Christian School and Sunday school classes.
Marie was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles and gardening, and was very artistic. She was generous, kind, compassionate, patriotic and relished life as a treasured gift.
A graveside service and celebration of Marie’s life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Hicks Cemetery, Perrysville, Ind., with Pastor Cummins officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the service.
