DANVILLE — Dean O’Connell, 85, of Danville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at his home.

Dean was born April 4, 1927, in Catlin Township, the son of Ernest and Alma (Hedges) O’Connell.

He married Betty Linton on April 1, 1951, in Danville. She survives.

He is survived by a daughter, Kelly (Timothy) Baechle of New York; one son, Jason (Michelle) O’Connell of Danville; two grandchildren, Kailin Baechle and Brandon O’Connell; and one sister-in-law, Martha O’Connell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, LaMoyne.

Dean was a member of Company D Fifth Infantry Illinois Reserve Militia. He also was appointed deputy sheriff by Clyde Taber in 1970 and was a member of the Civil Defense and the Police Auxiliary. He hauled U.S. mail for a contractor at the Danville Post Office. Dean worked 25 years at Heatcraft before retiring in 1990.

Arrangements were made by Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville. A graveside service was held Dec. 7, with burial at Spring Hill Cemetery, Pastor Mark Taylor officiating.
