Hattie Mae Wyman, 89, passed from this life on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville.
A special thank you to the staff and all the great friends she made while there.
Hattie was born in Farmersburg, Ind., on Feb. 20, 1921, the daughter of Clarence Fritz Sr. and Gladys (Fassett) Fritz.
She married Harold (H.B.) Wyman on June 2, 1947, in Farmersburg, Ind.
Hattie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her father, Clarence; mother, Gladys and stepfather, Byrl Johnson; also two brothers, Clarence Jr. and Charles Fritz Sr.
She is survived by her son, Larry Wyman of San Juan, Porta Rico; his stepdaughter, Tasha Walsh and her three daughters of Oklahoma; and her brother, Harold Fritz and his wife, Juanita, whom she resided with the last few years in Rossville.
Hattie had several nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond including a very special niece, Venita Miller of Rossville, who helped care for her, and her namesake, Hattie Mae Fritz of Georgia.
Hattie was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy 1944 to 1946. She received The Florence Nightingale Award in Nursing from the University of Indiana in 1988.
Hattie devoted most of her life to nursing, working in the Sullivan and Dugger Ind., area with Dr. Joe and Betty Dukes.
Upon retiring she went to Oklahoma and Texas. She continued her nursing. She kept her license current well into her 80s in all three states. Her career spanned over 60 years.
Hattie enjoyed reading, cooking and horse racing, which she and her husband, Harold, did for many years. She took great joy in all her friends, who were like family to her. In her later years, she worked at the horse track nursing the jockeys, the fans and even the horses. She enjoyed life and will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at Banks and Brust Funeral Home, with Rev. David Cox officiating. Interment will be in the West Lawn Cemetery with military graveside services by the Sullivan, Shelburn, and Hy-mera Legion Posts and the Sullivan County VFW Post. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.
