DANVILLE — Robert J. Winkle, 94, of Georgetown, passed away at 9:58 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at Provena hospital in Danville.

He was born May 4, 1918, in Norwood, Ohio, the son of Jim and Hazel (Snell) Winkle.

He is survived by his loving wife and life partner of 75 years, Evelyn (Stephenson) Winkle, who will miss him very much.

Also surviving are his son, Stephen (Joan) Winkle of Georgetown; grandsons, Brad (Donna) Winkle of High Point, N.C., Brian (Laura) Winkle of Georgetown, David Winkle of Fort Sill, Okla.; and granddaughter Amanda Winkle; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Mary Stephenson and Betty Bell.

After graduating from Norwood High School in 1936, Robert went to work at Cincinnati Milling. He enlisted in the Air Force during World War II.

He worked at General Electric for 33 years and retired in 1982. Since retirement, he enjoyed gardening, woodworking and travel.

A celebration of Robert’s life will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at Sunset’s Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home. Matt Filicsky will officiate. He will be laid to rest in Georgetown Cemetery. Visitation will be            2-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Georgetown United Methodist Church.
