DANVILLE —
Roy was taken home Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012.
Roy was born Nov. 22, 1943, in Newport, Ark.
He moved to Danville in 1968, where he married Shirley Ann Brown on Jan. 3 1973.
Roy worked as a brick mason and a roof contractor in the Danville area, building several churches and other local businesses that stand today.
He loved spending time with family, talking about his Harley-Davidson, and his ’69 Camero. He loved entertaining the grandchildren by dancing to his favorite country western tunes, and watching his favorite cowboy movies.
He was preceded by two brothers, Lanny Murphy and Eugene Murphy; his loving mother, Iva Jane; and father, Fred Murphy.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Murphy; and loving children, Roy (Teresa) Murphy, Scott Murphy and Lisa Murphy; nine grandchildren, Tiffany Shuman, Gage Murphy, Aereol Murphy, Brittany Murphy, Ivy Murphy, Makiah Payne (Murphy), Alan Hutchinson (Murphy), Skyler Murphy and Wezley Murphy; one great-granddaughter, Alisha Mullins; three sisters, Eve Sutterfield (Carl), Cora Alvin and Patricia Kirby; four brothers, Ed Murphy (Mary), Robert Murphy (Terry), James Murphy and Cecil Murphy and others who loved and cared for him.
He will be sadly missed by all who held him close to their hearts.
Friends and family will gather at Pape Memorial Home, Danville, on Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 2-4 p.m. A service commemorating his life will be held at 4 p.m. immediately following the visitation.
