Ethel A. Pruitt

DANVILLE — Ethel A. Pruitt, 92, of Danville, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at the Vermilion Manor Nursing Home in Danville.

She was born on July 15, 1920, to Ora and Nellie (Cox) Brown in Humbolt. She married Harold Myers on March 6, 1936. They were later divorced. She married Arnold Pruitt on Oct. 27, 1967. They were later divorced.

Ethel is survived by her daughters, Mary Cordrey of Danville, Dean (Ken Yearyean) Summitt of Riverside Calif., Helen Pate of Westville and Carol Washkun of Dixon, Texas; grandchildren, Ethel (Larry) Kingore, Carol (Frank) Weidler, James (Dina) Summitt, Edward Allen (Diane) Pate, Donna Marie (Jeff) Williamson, Ronald (Missy) Pate, Windy, Kelly, Debbie K., Harold “Scooter” Myers and Amanda; sisters, Alma Jane Lovett and Neoma Wright; and many loving great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Frank Myers; brothers, Joseph Thomas and Leslie Brown; sisters, Leitha Phillips, Viola Reffeitt and Cora Anderson; and previous husbands.

Ethel dedicated her life to taking care of others. An avid reader and great cook, she enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, looking after her garden and she loved her pet bird, Frankie. First and foremost Ethel was a woman who loved spending time with her family and took great pride in her children, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

A celebration of Ethel’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville, with Pastor Ford of Abundant Life Church officiating and burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held prior to services from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville.
