DANVILLE — Hurley T. Dix Jr., 83, of Danville, transitioned from life into eternity at 10:24 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center.

Hurley was born Feb. 20, 1929, in Danville, to Hurley Sr. and Corrine Polk Dix.

He was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Clyola Pope, on Sept. 4, 1987, in Kankakee. She survives.

Hurley graduated from Danville High School. He retired from the Department of Veteran Affairs hospital after 42 years of service as a food service supervisor.

His hobbies included fishing, cars, music and shopping for clothes. Hurley was a member of Greater Shiloh Baptist Church.

Hurley leaves to cherish his loving memory, a daughter, Claranetta Dickerson, of Indianapolis; stepdaughters, Michelle (Lawrence) Hall, of West Chester, Ohio, Viola (Steve) Beech, of Indianapolis, Linette Holman, of Champaign, and Malissie Holman, of Acuworth, Ga.; grandchildren, Annice Thomas, Terrance Dickerson and Latammion Dix; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Hurley had two special friends, Kermit Paron and Bill Grundy.

Hurley was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and a daughter.

A celebration of life will commence at noon Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church, 609 N. Bowman Ave., Danville. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the time of the service. A public viewing will commence from 1-5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St., Danville. Officiating: Pastor U. Pete Williams. Interment: Spring Hill Cemetery.
