HOMER — Brandon Lee Umbarger, 17, of Homer, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Carle Foundation Hospital, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 31, at the Heritage High School gymnasium. Burial will be in the G.A.R. Cemetery in Homer. There is a visitation from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the high school.

Kirby Funeral Home, 708 S. Main St., Homer, is in charge of arrangements.

Brandon was born May 6, 1995, in Urbana, a son of David and Lauri Mumm Umbarger.

Surviving are his parents, of Homer; one brother, Nicholas Umbarger of Homer; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Beverly Umbarger of Homer; maternal grandparents, John and Eunice Mumm of Sidney; and maternal great-grandmother, Freida Mumm. He also is survived by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Brandon was a member of the Vineyard Church, National Honor Society, student council, FFA, the Bass Fishing League and the RED Zone. He was active in basketball, football and baseball. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

After graduating high school, he had dreams of joining the Air Force and serving his country.

Memorial donations may be made to the Brandon Lee Umbarger Memorial Fund so the family can do something special in Brandon’s name.
