Eloise L. Jarling, 88, of Danville, passed away at 3:15 a.m. Monday, March 8, 2010, at North Logan Health Care in Danville.
She was born Oct. 27, 1921, in Danville to William and Lulu Reik Zander.
She graduated from Trinity Lutheran Grade School in 1935, from Danville High School in 1939 and St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in January 1943.
She married John Jarling on Oct. 3, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Danville.
Surviving are three daughters, Sandra Jarling of Urbana, Susan (Fred) Snyder of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Sylvia (Steve) Cook of Saint Cloud, Minn.; five grandchildren, Paula (Jeff) Kanning, Matthew (Brandy) Snyder and Kenneth (Danielle) Snyder all of Fort Wayne, Ind., John (Julie) Cook of Milaca, Minn., and Michael Cook of Saint Cloud, Minn.; four great-grandchildren; and Betty (Bill) Schneider and their children Tim (deceased), Nathan and John who were like family to Eloise.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers, three sisters and one grandson.
Eloise was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir for many years. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital from 1943 to 1977. She also belonged to the Illiana Organaires, St. Elizabeth Hospital Alumni Association and the Eunice Society of the Trinity Lutheran Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting.
A celebration of the life of Eloise L. Jarling will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Danville. Visitation will be an hour prior to services, 1-2 p.m., at the church. Pastor Kent Tibben will officiate. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will also be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Memorials may be made to the “Giving is a Blessing Fund” at Trinity Lutheran Church or to Danville Lutheran School.
