Mrs. Bernadine L. Thomas, of Safety Harbor, Fla., died Sunday morning, Feb. 7, 2010, after a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband W.E. (“Peanut”) Thomas, her parents, James and Dorothy Loop, and grandson, Matthew Lewis.
She was married to W.E. (“Peanut”) Thomas on Dec. 19, 1942, in Chicago. “Bernie” was a life-long resident of Ridge Farm until her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and caring for her family.
She was a member of the Ridge Farm Church of Christ and the American Legion Auxiliary. In her later years, “Bernie” enjoyed traveling to Minnesota, Colorado, Germany and Florida for her “YA YA” Reunions.
She is survived by her sister, Shirley (“Punk”) Thompson; children, Susan K. McGovern, Gloria (Patrick) Cutter, James (Mary Ann) Thomas and Michael Thomas; grandchildren, Patrick (Brandi) Lewis, Leslie Thomas, Jeremy Thomas, Jamee Thomas and Paige Andrews; great-grandchildren, Michael, Jessica, Brian, Brittany, Chelsea, Matthew, Justin, Emily, Tylynn, Kobie; and three great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a brother-in-law, Roy (Margaret) Thomas; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at the Friends Church in Ridge Farm. Visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, followed by funeral and graveside services. Pastor James Blue will officiate. Flowers or contributions may be given to the Ridge Farm Friends Church. Sunset’s Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
