Harry G. Shipman

FAIRMOUNT — Harry G. Shipman, 79, of Fairmount, passed away at 12:12 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Harry was born on Nov. 21, 1933 ,in Danville, to George and Thelma Miller Shipman. He married Carole Jean Holden on March 3, 1951. They later divorced, and she survives. Also surviving are one son, Anthony Shipman of Danville; two daughters: Tamar Fortner of Newport, Ind., and Terri Francis of Danville; one brother, Merrell Shipman of St. Joseph; one sister, Sharon Kay Shipman of Macon; six grandchildren, Jeremy Fortner, Jaimal Fortner, Emily Fortner, Ben Shipman, Nick Shipman and Eli Shipman; and eight great-grandchildren, James Fortner, Mercedes Fortner, Mathew Fortner, Tiffani Fortner, Chase Shipman, Lola Shipman, Ryan Shipman and Sophie Shipman. Harry was survived by his longtime companion, Kathy Voorhees of Fairmount, with whom he made his home.

He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of the Danville Moose Lodge and had been a truck driver all his life. He was also a member of Teamsters Local 26 and enjoyed fishing, Bears football games, and was an avid Cardinal baseball fan, as well as an Illini fan.

Funeral services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Robison Chapel in Catlin, with the Rev. Patti Wise officiating. Burial: Sunset Cemetery in Danville. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday at Robison Chapel. Memorials to the Batestown United Methodist Church. Online condolences at www.robisonchapel.com.
