Karen Sue 'Kay' Hurt

HOOPESTON — Karen Sue “Kay” Hurt, 73, of Hoopeston, passed away at 8:55 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at her home.

She was born July 15, 1939, in Rossville. She was raised by her loving grandparents, George and Mary Wintersteen.

Kay married Paul Hurt July 9, 1955, in Covington, Ind. He preceded her in death in 1975.

She also is survived by four daughters, Brenda (Greg) Kelnhofer of rural Hoopeston, Paula (Bruce) Williams of rural Hoopeston, Kristy Hurt of Danville, and Jane “Buda” Hurt (Ricky Smith) of Hoopeston; two sons, Darin “Moose” Hurt of Hoopeston, and Bill (Paige) Hurt of Catlin; two sisters, Beverly Jane Bivans of Hoopeston, and Cindy (Donnie) Clyden of Hoopeston; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and expecting one more great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Kay worked for Howard Industries in Hoopeston and later worked at Schumacher Electric in Hoopeston, where she retired. She attended the Chestnut Street Church of Christ in Hoopeston where she loved helping out.

She enjoyed playing cards, going to Little League games, watching the Chicago Cubs, cooking, shopping and spending time with her family.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Anderson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lewis Mershon officiating. Burial will be at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.
