H. Jay Johnson Jr.

HERMITAGE, Tenn. — H. Jay Johnson Jr., 68, of Hermitage, Tenn., passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.

Jay was born Sept. 7, 1944, in Greencastle, Ind., the son of the late Hughie Jay and the late Doris Johnson Sr.

He was a proud alumnus of the Hoopeston High School Class of 1962 and earned his undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Pittsburgh.

He achieved great success during a long career in industrial engineering management that took him and his family from coast to coast. One of his proudest achievements was his commission into the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels. His final career milestone before retirement was the creation and ownership of Quality Metal Treating Inc. in Cookeville, Tenn.

Above and beyond his professional successes, Jay was a generous and loving husband and father, will always be remembered by his friends as the life of every party and had a passion for playing card games such as Hearts and Euchre.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Gail Johnson of Hermitage; children, Jay Alan Johnson, Kristie Cheatum (William “Bill”), Melissa Francque (Todd) and Scott Aaron Johnson (William Turner); sister, Carol Hicks; brother, Michael Johnson; grandchildren, Christian Jay “CJ” Johnson, Emily Grace Johnson, Samuel Alexander Francque, Lauryn JoElle Francque, Amber Dawn Francque and Kaleb Christian Francque; and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the American Legion Post No. 384, 502 E. Penn St., Hoopeston. Burial will follow at Skaggs Creek Cemetery, Rockcastle County, Ky., on a date to be determined.
