Ollie (Dean) Smith Brookshier

DANVILLE — Ollie (Dean) Smith Brookshier, 78, of Danville, died at 7:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center.

Ollie was born on May 10, 1934, in Smith, Ky. She was the daughter of Finley and Ora (Hensley) Dean. She attended school in Smith, Ky. Ollie lived in Attica, Ind., from 1965 until 1983 when she moved to Danville. She worked for the Attica Consolidated School System and then later the Danville Area Community College, retiring in 1999. After retirement she did the one thing she loved the most, she took care of babies for the Bunton family.

Ollie attended the Assembly of God Church in Attica. She enjoyed gardening, canning, shopping and watching QVC. Her family was her life. All of her grandchildren were special to her and especially those who were there for her when she needed them.

Surviving are children, Ernest Smith of Tennessee, Alene Hinkle (husband: David) of Virginia, Alberta English of Virginia, Brenda Lasley (husband: Roy) of Virginia, Teresa Truelove (husband: Keith) of Georgetown, Michael Smith (wife: Holly) of Louisiana, Arnetta Smith (companion: Pat Schuessler) of Williamsport, Ind., Veronica Smith-Bragg (husband: Jeff) of Danville and Vivian Smith of Danville; one sister, Barbara Ellen Dean of Harlan, Ky.; four brothers, Gilbert Dean (wife: Carol) of Detroit, Mich., Tommy Dean (wife: Zola) of Baxter, Ky., Johnny Dean (wife: Joann) of Cawood, Ky., and Terry Dean of Baxter, Ky.; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Ollie was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Bernice King, Betty Green and Maxine Dean; and grandson, Ray Eldridge.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. EST until service time at 1 p.m. EST Monday, Feb. 11, at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport, Ind., with Pastor Harvey Lang officiating. Interment will follow at West Lebanon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the CRIS Healthy Aging Center, 309 N. Franklin St., Danville IL 61832.
