HOOPESTON — Wilford “Tuck” Compton, 91, of Hoopeston, passed away at 8:12 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at his home.

Wilford was born Feb. 28, 1921, in Faubush, Ky., son of Chester Compton and Hattie (Widdle) Compton Kennedy.

Tuck married Helen Webb on April 10, 1950, in Hoopeston. She survives in Hoopeston.

He also is survived by one son, Steve (Verna) Compton of Hoopeston; three daughters, Vicki Johnson of Hoopeston, Teresa Lane (Mike Dean) of Hoopeston, and Linda Atteberry of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Christine Hill of Grand Prairie, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; four brothers; and one daughter, Charlene Young.

Tuck worked as a mechanic for 40 years. He first worked at the Ford Garage for 20 years and later owned and operated Compton’s Garage for 20 years.

He belonged to the Northfork Conservation Club for many years and helped raise pheasants. Tuck enjoyed fishing, hunting and pitching horseshoes. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and friends.

A visitation will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Anderson Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeff Alexander officiating.

Cremation rites will follow funeral services.

Memorial donations may be given to the family in care of Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston, IL 60942.
