POTOMAC — Chester F. (Junior) Reifsteck, Jr. 75, of Potomac, died at 4:50 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Born Aug. 23, 1936, at Sadorus, he was the son of Chester F. and Selma A. (Lietz) Reifsteck. He married Loretta L. Miller on Aug. 28, 1955, at Bismarck. She survives.
Also surviving are three children, Debi (Michael) Johnson of Mahomet, Brad (Maria) Reifsteck of Henning, and Brenda Sahd of Albuquerque, N.M.; nine grandchildren who lovingly called him “Pappy,” Ethan, Jordan (Linda) and Alyssa Abdel-Haq, Chad (Val) Reifsteck, Austin (Holly) Reifsteck, Brittney Reifsteck, Dana and Blake Sahd and Brandon (Olivia) Curry; five great-grandchildren, Cala, Rowen, Caleb, Gavyn and Carter; and one brother, James (Marilyn) Reifsteck of Tolono.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Melvin; one sister, Eleanor Combs; one son, Randy Reifsteck; and one grandson, Adam.
“Junior” as he was affectionately called, was a 1954 graduate of Henning High School. He served in the National Guard and had farmed in the Potomac area all of his life.
He was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hoopeston. He was a member of the Farm Bureau. He loved working word puzzles and he enjoyed sports, especially baseball and basketball.
Funeral services for Mr. Reifsteck will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 302 N. Market St., Hoopeston. The Rev. James Batchelor will officiate. Burial will be in Mann’s Chapel Cemetery, south of Rossville. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the church and one hour prior to services on Thursday.
Memorials may be made to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
The Brown-Alkire Funeral Home in Hoopeston is in charge of arrangements.
